"The aim of Positive Psychology is to catalyse a change in psychology from a preoccupation only with repairing the worst things in life to also building the best qualities in life." - Martin Seligman
Positive Psychology is the science of well-being, strengths and high achievement. As a discipline it seeks to understand the conditions and processes that contribute to the flourishing and optimal functioning of individuals. It covers concepts and theories such as engagement, character strengths, positive interpersonal relationships, optimism, and resilience. Unlike the positive thinking/positive affirmation movement, positive psychology pursues scientifically informed perspectives on what makes life worth living. Positive psychology interventions (PPIs) are evidence-based, validated instructions, activities or recommnedations that are effective in enhancing wellbeing and performance and promoting optimal physical and mental health. They focus on maximising a client's positive emotions and strengths.
Used together postive psychology and coaching psychology help people to realise their potential and become their best possible selves.
